 I. when the universe sprang apart

people could wander for eternity and never find their half-stars

 yet here we are.

 I see you in me,
me in you—

you told me your stories in
                                     origami.

Every fold ran in parallels,
woven tapestries.

II. Cold stone & frost

The match burned — sleeping nights
— spiraling, spilling
talks, always ending in
                                      flickers.

One night, sometimes two,
all but feeble attempts.
Short circuits
Hoping, Yearning, Salvaging.

 in a kingdom of ashes,
only memories (how distant!)
are all

III. shoes are only sold in pairs

 We scaled mountains
traveled the globe
took a stroll — a million times —
around the garden of our souls
burned out the soles.

But the world had mismatched feet

the sugar rush is always sweet until—
you have to clean up the mess.
