Kintsukuroi

Kintsukoroi
Japanese (n.) (v. phr.)
"to repair with gold"; the art of repairing pottery with gold or silver lacquer and understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken and fixed

Dear friend,

There was a time when I was in your position. When waking up each day felt like trudging through a war zone, when every attempted smile felt like a balancing act that could tip you over the edge at any moment.; when the night was a breeding ground of dark thoughts.

Whatever is causing you to feel this way, I'm writing to let you know that it's okay. It's okay to feel low, but you have to get up. Sometimes we all need to fall into the low to appreciate the highs. But you need to open up your hearts to let the highs in. I know it feels easier to approach life with a cynical eye, you don't get disappointed that way. But I want you to remember, friend, that there's a fine line between expecting and being optimistic.

I'll endure your aching soul and sit with you in your dark corner, but you have to get up. Friend, you asked me once how I am able to pull through the struggles of life while at the same time, offer strength to others. I guess it's because I've seen the dark side of the moon while everybody else marveled at her flawless beauty. Maybe you'd call me naive, but I believe in healing. I believe in the baby oak enduring the thunderstorms, I believe in the metal blade in the furnace.

I believe in you.

I know my words may not mean much in comparison to the weight of your heart's angst. But I hope they offer some consolation: that you are not alone in this. You still have your family, your friends. You have me.

Friend, shadows only prove the sun, so why don't you turn the other way?

Sincerely, Sab
